Lima was 2015's most visited city in Latin America




Lima has experienced one of the greatest growths in tourism in the world over the previous years. And this year, the growth was driven primarily by the international conferences of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, in addition to the growing popularity of gastronomy.

More than 4.22 million tourists visited Lima in 2015, according to Mastercard’s report, “Global Destination Cities Index”. This represents a 7% increase compared to 2014. The 2015 was a good year for tourism in Lima; more tourists visited the Peruvian capital than any other Latin American city.

"In 2016 the growth of 7% should repeat itself from this year. The first months will be affected for the fear of circulated information in the world of the phenomenon El Niño. And with the Olympics in Brazil, the same thing could happen as with the World Cup when the travelers prefered to go there.” said Jochamowitz.

2017 will be the "International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development"




The United Nations General Assembly has approved the designation of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development. With this proclamation,  It’s recognized the importance of sustainable tourism destinations for the advancement of peoples and the enhancement of heritage and culture.


The resolution, adopted on December 4, recognizes "the importance of international tourism and in particular the appointment of an international year of sustainable tourism development, to promote better understanding among peoples everywhere, lead to you take a greater awareness of the rich heritage of various civilizations and lead to a better appreciation of the inherent values ​​of different cultures, thus contributing to strengthening peace in the world, "said Taleb Rifai.

The tourism figure on the goals of three of the ODS: to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; and sustainable consumption and conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development production.

Peru was chosen as Best Culinary World Destination




In the global edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2015, Peru was chosen as Best World culinary destination. Which they are considered the Oscar of tourism. The announcement was unveiled during the gala ceremony on Saturday 12th at the Mazagan Beach Resort in El Jadida, Morocco port city.

Peru won against China, Australia, Spain, USA, France, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico and Thailand. It’s a distinction that adds to the awards that our country has also won Best culinary destination in South America in the regional editions of the World Travel Awards 2015.

"The World Travel Awards (WTA) have 22 years of experience. They recognize and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism and travel industry worldwide. For Best Culinary World Destination was created four years ago and, since then, Peru has been the only winner of this award, "said the head of Mincetur.

These awards are in addition to the one granted to Central Restaurant, Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez, who ranked first in the list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America 2015.

Lima among the top 10 emerging destinations in the world


The International Travel site TripAdvisor announced the winners of the "Travelers' Choice - Top Destinations on the Rise" award, placing to Lima in ninth place in the ranking of the Best Emerging Destination World.


The list, which is headed by Tulum (Mexico), reveals the best places in the world that are currently a growing trend among travelers. In the second figure Cartagena (Colombia) and in the third place Porto (Portugal), Gatlinburg (Tennessee), Moscow (Russia), Brighton (UK), New Delhi (India), Banff (Alberta), Lima (Peru) and Foz do Iguazu (Brazil).


TripAdvisor's Tourism Website indicates that Lima "is a fascinating city and a treasure of the history." He also published the ranking of the Best Emerging Destination in South America, where Lima (Peru) ranks second, second only to Cartagena (Colombia) led the list.
