Machu Picchu nominated to National Geographic Traveller Awards


The complex of Machu Picchu was nominated for a prize in the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards. The Inca citadel is postulated in the "Overseas Attraction" or Attracting Overseas.

Machu Picchu competes in the category with the Grand Canyon National Park in Colorado, located in the northern state of Arizona, in the United States, and the Australian Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world.

The Inca citadel, one of the seven wonders of the world, was inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO in 1983 and is considered the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire and one of the most important heritage sites on the planet.

Prizes will be awarded later this month in the city of London, and will appear in the January-February edition of National Geographic Traveller magazine.

Meet the 5 cities more visited by airway in Peru




The operator International Airport Lima Airport Partners, reveals that the cities most visited by foreigners were Cusco, Arequipa, Piura, Iquitos (Loreto) and Tarapoto (San Martín) for second consecutive year.

These cities received a total of 1 million 540 thousand 36 passengers between January and July 2015, which represented an increase of 11.9% in passengers compared to the previous year for these cities. In the same period the Jorge Chavez international airport received more than 9 million passengers, representing an increase of 8.9% nationally. Passengers on international and domestic departures increased by 6, 7 and 11 percent respectively.

Locally, many Peruvians preferred destinations like Santiago, Miami, Bogota, Madrid and Panama, with more than eight hundred thousand travelers on direct international flights, which represents 45% of total passengers registered.
