The complex
of Machu Picchu was nominated for a prize in the National Geographic Traveller
Reader Awards. The Inca citadel is postulated in the "Overseas
Attraction" or Attracting Overseas.
Machu
Picchu competes in the category with the Grand Canyon National Park in
Colorado, located in the northern state of Arizona, in the United States, and
the Australian Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world.
The Inca
citadel, one of the seven wonders of the world, was inscribed on the World
Heritage List of UNESCO in 1983 and is considered the most amazing urban
creation of the Inca Empire and one of the most important heritage sites on the
planet.
Prizes will
be awarded later this month in the city of London, and will appear in the
January-February edition of National Geographic Traveller magazine.
